New tickets for use on Rome’s public transportation network – including trams, buses, local Trenitalia trains (excluding airport trains) and the metro – are now available, replacing the old 24-hour and 72-hour tickets and adding a 48-hour ticket. Unlike the former ticket system, under which tickets were valid only until midnight on the last calendar day of use, the new tickets are valid for 24, 48 or 72 hours from the time of validation.
Rome’s existing BIT ticket (1.50€ for 100 minutes) and CIS ticket (24€ for seven days) are not affected by this change and are still offered.
The 24-hour ticket is 7€, the 48-hour ticket is 12.50€ and the 72-hour ticket is 18 €; all tickets have unlimited use within the allotted time periods. Tickets can be purchased online through ATAC, Rome’s official public transportation agency, and at ticket machines throughout the city.
