Mr. Peabody & Sherman, the latest animated release from DreamWorks, opens today in the U.S. (and March 13th in Italy). It is noteworthy to Italophiles because part of the animated action takes place in Renaissance Florence. The main characters in the movie are Mr. Peabody, the most accomplished dog in the world, and his human Sherman. They have a time machine – the WABAC – that takes them on “the most outrageous adventures known to man or dog.” Chaos ensues though Sherman takes the WABAC out for a joyride and accidentally rip a hole in the universe, challenging the course of history.
According to The Florentine, “The Florence stage in their journey back in time sees the main character meddle in the making of the Mona Lisa. The film portrays an animated Florence in all its glory: views of the city and the surrounding hills, the Ponte Vecchio, the riverside avenues and an overly elongated Brunelleschi’s dome.”
